Clearly, I was not over the Hawaiian food kick.  Mostly, I think I wanted to cleanse my palate of the last bad Hawaiian meal.  It was dinner break time between lessons, and I hadn’t visited this place for a while.  I ordered the Char Siu plate from the “Shakas Specialties” category.  It’s normally served with rice, tsukemono and macaroni salad.  I was needing some greens so I substituted the macaroni salad for a green salad.  I know, sacrilege, right?  (I’m also just now realizing that I never got the tsukemono.  I feel cheated.)

I was expecting a weak, iceberg number, but I was pleasantly surprised!  It was a very green salad topped with julienned chicken breast and fried won ton strips.  The pork was delicious.  It was generously sprinkled with chopped green onion, there was a sauce for dipping, the hot mustard was a great addition, and there was plenty of rice to eat with it.

I like their food there; I just question their overall customer service.  On my last visit, the girl at the bar was too busy texting to attend to us in a timely manner.  This time around, I walked up to the cashier to place and order to go.  “What was the name on the order?”  “What, I haven’t ordered yet…”  Oh, you mean, you’re asking what my name is so you can put that on the order.  Really?  The place wasn’t busy, no one else was in line.  Just use a number.  That confused me a bit, and he gave me a look like I was dumb or something.  Oof, am I becoming a curmudgeon?

Anyway, the food was really good, and I think I finally got the Aloha craving out of my system for now.
